In his article "Recipe for Alignment, Jon Surmacz begins with the following statement: "Companies that have neatly aligned IT projects with business goals are likely to have a CIO and a project management office, says a recent survey." 

The survey was completed by the Hackett Group from data collected from over 2,000 of their clients. 

Scott Holland, a director at the Hackett Group was quoted as saying, "World class companies do a better job of practicing project management." 

In discussing the value of establishing a Project Management Office, Holland stated that "a project management office can help companies provide justification for projects before they’re rolled out and see that those projects are finished on time, on budget and to business specification."
